The first part of this project was created with copper plate etching.
The second part of this project is a process called Cut plate technique. The copper plate image is cut apart. In my case in to three different sections. First the head, then the body and finally the tail. Then reassembling the the copper plate pieces into different head, body, tail, combinations. Here are some images, some are prints and some are prints that have been cleaned up in photoshop.
The last part of this project was the print images to create a book. Instead of writing a book first with words then adding the images. I wanted to have the print illustrations completed before writing the book. After the images where completed, I thought about how the chimera would survive. First by thinking about the different parts of the animal, whether it was part fish or part viper or carnivore. Then what did it eat, did it hunt or run on the plains, all of these things played in to the what the animal is doing in the book. For the most part I wrote it with children in mind to read and enjoy it, but it can be enjoyed by all ages. Here are some sample spreads from the book.
