Hot Dog Repurposed Grill

Here is my work that I did over the summer, and was part of the faculty show in October. I called the piece “Hot Dog”.

I have always been one to not waste things. Maybe even as far as keeping to many things. I think there is possibilities in lots of items that have seemingly lost there usefulness. They are just waiting to be discovered.

This project started this summer in Montana, when I found an old grill and being funny put my dog Lucky inside. Then I thought why couldn’t it be a kennel with some circulation holes and paint this could look good. Later cut down the legs so that the dog could just jump in. I wanted the wheels on so I could roll the kennel around to wherever I was and the dog could be there too. At present this repurposed grill is in my work office so when I bring my dog in she has a place to be.

Recycle Reuse inspiration

photopolymer print

photopolymer print

Well the background of the reuse recycle is something that I have always been interested in but in grad school I did a printmaking piece from photopolymer, that i had already created other art pieces out of. I create this piece by cutting up the plates I had already created and laying them out in different ways over the paper, that I had torn in the shape of a piece of wood that I found on a hike behind my house in Montana. so everything about the art work was reused and recycled from other projects. The paper was torn from a left over project. The ink was reused from another run. The plates  cut up with tin shears inked up and printed. The work has developed beyond the paper now, but this is where I made the idea art.

Well I have started some new projects this summer. I have strayed some from my work in grad school which some I plan to pick up in year to come, but I wanted somewhat of a change up so this is what I have been working on lately

I have always be interested is reusing things and not being wasteful. So I have worked on some projects that have reuse things around the house in Montana. The goal being that they serve a different purpose than they were bought for or used for. Also that they are ascetically  pleasing to look at.

Well better late posting it than never. I finished the dream book a while ago but have just got around to uploading it. Here are some images from the book.

alligator in the closet

Well, my next set of prints I think went better. I have a couple of them to show. the plate that I made with photopolymer then the prints from the plate. I am using hand printing on these because of the transparency paper is delicate and it is also hard to work with the ink sit on top of the paper so have to be very careful about laying it down or it will smear on the paper.

As far as how these dreams go. Well it is the classic dream I had when i was little about there being gators in the closet so we had to keep the door open. The next one is from a computer game that I played growing up and of course if you did everything right you can conquer the world.

making first print for dream book

Well, I started working on my first plate. I am going to do a lot of these prints with a photopolymer printing method. So I have worked on creating my first prints.
Well my first two plates, they didn’t work out as well as I expected because I forgot to inverse out the image as is done with photopolymer printing and my plates are the opposite of what I thought they would be. Oh well it was just a test to see if I remember how and I guess I didn’t.

cover for dream book

Well I started on my thesis project because well that is kinda important for my last year at school 😛 yeah I know. and well the show is in April so I better get started….
So my thesis is on Hybrid Art which is just the mixing of traditional  methods and process with new technology. My work primarily deals with working in the adobe suits and traditional printmaking methods.
I started working on my book cover for my choose your own dream book and so wanted to wrap the cover of the book with some copper plate prints that I etched. So I made 2 different copper plate etches one that had a circular pattern and one that had a more rectangle pattern. I have printed these on Japanese paper, and I am going to wrap the cover of my book with the prints. The cover of the book will be more like a box because my book will be a book that binds on 4 sides, and you can have a choice to turn 1 of 4 different pages. So we will see how it goes.

Junk I can’t throwaway “stickers”

Well, my next zine in this section is stickers, I have collected and scanned all my stickers, and even got some more to create this zine……I know…

These are some sample pages from the zine. There was about 26 pages.

Hatch show workshop

I got to participate in a letterpress printing workshop and here are some of the posters that I did. It was a great experiences and I learned a lot.

This are old-fashion wood type letters and words for the most part and we inked them up and printed them on poster sheets and on t-shirts.
