Well my next one I thought was fairly amusing, sometimes you just never know who is going to use a pig. Pigs in advertising are used fairly often for selling lots of different products. The Geico commercials, anything to do with pork and bacon, but how about selling products face care products to women. Probably don’t think of pigs being used as much.
This is a product sold here in Korea along with many other face-mask and face care products. This one uses a pig to represent what happens. Is that the best choice to reach the target market ?

The product removes blackheads from the nose, in 3 easy steps. The drawing of the pig, shows how they are unwanted, then the next drawing shows the blackheads popping out then for step 3 the nose is clean. Also with the 3 easy steps there is a small drawing on the left show what is happing with the skin and blackheads in the 3 steps that correspond with the pig.
Overall, I think the product is advertised well, especially because I can understand what is happening without being able to read it. So the product is communicating the correct information. I am just not sure, at first glance…would woman be draw in…what woman wants a pig to be representing her face…
Well, here are some other face-masks, I thought were interesting. These mask are a retro style with classic pictures but have a combination of modern and classic font faces. Also the the color is very minimalistic in use, creating a two color feel. First the pictures give the packaging a retro feel because the are old 50s and 60s pictures. These pictures show woman faces with the look the product is trying to convey; “strong and hydrated” “soothing moisture” “whiting care”. What the product does for the consumer is clear stated no searching trying to figure it out. Also the brand does more than one thing which is nice the main thing the mask does is listed at the top, but the secondary things are listed below. creating a hierarchy of information that is easy to digest. The modern look comes in with the color and font styles. Secondly , the fonts are a mix fancy and san serif fonts with caps thrown in. I like the personalization of the each package, like the girl in the picture is telling the buyer the information. I like the “I am always bright” layout with the slight diagonal, dynamic but not overwhelming. I think the bottom font and layout choices could be better. I like the color pulling us into the modern world but the pics keeping us firmly in retro.
Over all I like the combination of pictures, color and font together creating the retro style that is trending now, but also leaning towards not just towards the minimals style but what is being called the essentialism. This is being defined as a style that doesn’t strip away everything like minimalism but gives consumer the basic info need to purchase products, in a market that is saturated with the same products.
